TARA TAHERI
Tara has been an oral health educator and a dental care professional for over 20 years. Her coaching practice started after gaining her MSc in health psychology. She was influenced by Carl Rogers, one of the founders of humanistic psychology and person-centred therapy. She has been applying health coaching strategies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the Health Belief Model, Motivational Interviewing, Self-Efficacy and goal setting in my field towards the prevention of oral diseases and oral health behaviour. This has enabled her to help patients to find new perspectives on their conditions and to be motivated by their intrinsic values so that they can make sustainable changes. This is achieved by building a good rapport, trust and creating a safe environment with respect, autonomy, choice and responsibility. She is in the process of becoming chartered as a Coaching Psychologist.
Tara became familiar with the Eight Tensions in 2024 through group supervision with Dr Natalie Lancer and in 2025 she trained as an Eight Tensions Coach. She is now an Eight Tensions Advanced Practitioner. She loves Dr Lancer’s definition of growth as ‘becoming a better liver of life”. The Eight Tensions is a valuable tool which prompts self-reflection, fosters personal growth and guides an individual to find the best way for a more meaningful and authentic life. The client learns that being in these tensions is natural and this realisation helps them to make deliberate and uplifting decisions.
Beyond the dental care setting, Tara coaches adult clients experiencing uncertainty, dilemmas and challenges in their lives especially in the context of burnout and well-being. She facilitates clients to face the tensions in their lives constructively and realistically so they can reach their maximum potential. She can help them emphasise their strengths and identify their intrinsic values to make meaningful, positive changes.
Tara is constantly developing my coaching skills. She integrates different coaching frameworks including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Positive Psychology, well-being strategies and the Eight Tensions into her coaching practice so that she can help individual clients towards living a more meaningful life.
